Ken Smith is known globally as The Hermit of Treig and has been living ‘off grid’ in the Scottish Highlands for more than 40 years.
The 74-year-old, who is originally from Derbyshire, decided to live life, as he says, “on his own terms” after returning from the Yukon in his mid thirties.

The hermit, who lives in a cabin he built himself and survives on food he has foraged and fished, is the subject of a new BBC Scotland documentary.
