Former star of the Real Housewives of Cheshire Nermina Pieters-Mekic has told fans she's been diagnosed with breast cancer. The model and showjumper took to social media to confirm the heart-breaking news as she explained why she'd been silent on her online platforms recently.

She confirmed the diagnosis in a heartfelt post on Instagram, saying she has been diagnosed with an early stage, aggressive breast cancer after finding a lump in her left breast.

The former reality star has shared how her "heart was broken" at receiving the news and explained her fears in the wake of her diagnosis that she wouldn't see her daughter "grow up." Nermina, who shares two-year-old daughter Alaya-Rose with her West Bromwich Albion player husband Erik Pieters, posted a typed-out note on social media alongside some pictures of her and her husband Erik, including one of her wearing a cold cap which is sometimes used during treatment to prevent hair loss. A few months ago I felt a lump in my left breast and I decided to see a GP who didn’t seem overly concerned. After some convincing from my Mom- I decided to investigate it further as the lump was getting sore and growing.
