A modern re-imagination of the world’s first-ever pedal cycle invented by Dumfriesshire’s Kirkpatrick Macmillan is being created for a special event next month.
Led by Scottish cyclewear brand Endura, the ambitious project, called A Forgotten Legend, aims “to remind the world of the often forgotten fact that cycling – enjoyed as a sport or a mode of transport by over one billion people worldwide – was born in Scotland”.
On August 10, the newly-manufactured bike will travel from Thornhill to Glasgow following the route Macmillan famously rode almost two centuries ago in 1842.
Endura athletes, led by professional rider Mikayla Parton, are taking part alongside what the company said are “one or two familiar faces” to be announced in coming weeks.
