She’s best known to many of us as a cheerful presenter on Good Morning Britain, but Ranvir Singh’s journey to widespread success has been far from easy, with the star now revealing that she was once reduced to tears in a park alongside her toddler son after her job at ITV was axed.

Recalling the experience on the Sliding Doors podcast, Ranvir told host Jennie Becker about how her world had come crashing down after she swapped the BBC for an ITV role several years ago - including how she was reduced to tears after realising her ITV job was getting the axe. "I had a very secure job with the BBC, a job with a pension and everything,” she explained. "I got headhunted to go to ITV.

So I give up this whole secure life at the BBC and my friends and my life in Manchester to move to London, essentially, for a contract. "It was a two-year contract.

But I always remember being in the newsroom at the BBC and looking up at the little television and thinking, 'I want to know what it's like to be there [on a national].” After making the move, things initially got off to a great start, with the newsreader enjoying every minute of her time on the job for the first 15 months, however things soon took a turn for the worst, when the programme she was working on underwent a whole rebrand, meaning her job no longer existed.
