For all the wheeling and dealing that is going on behind the scenes to try to bring players to Ibrox before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, Michael Beale reckons he’s already got TWO new multi-million pound rated bodies through the doors.Todd Cantwell was paraded by Rangers on Wednesday and will feature in today’s squad against St Johnstone but, if anything, Beale is even more excited by being able to pencil in Ianis Hagi’s name on the team sheet.
One year and one week since the Romanian damaged his cruciate ligament in a Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion, Hagi’s rehabilitation is complete and while he won’t play the entire 90 minutes against Saints at Ibrox, if he appears off the bench he will probably hear the biggest roar of the afternoon.Beale’s voice will be added to the din.
He admits he is absolutely thrilled that Hagi is back and revealed that such was his interest in the playmaker’s well-being, that he was in regular touch with him during his spells at Aston Villa and QPR.
When asked if having Hagi available was akin to bringing another signing through the door, Beale smiled: “It does feel like the equivalent of having another £4m player through the door.“And if you get Todd Cantwell in the same window for nothing really then it’s a brilliant one for us.
