Sander Berge was only a 21-year-old kid when Genk were going for the Belgian title. But somehow, Philippe Clement had him playing like a 30-year-old as they went on to lift the league flag.
In 2019, the Pro League outfit hadn’t been champs for almost a decade and had only won it three times in their historyBut new Rangers gaffer Clement changed all of that.
He took a group of talented young players – including Berge – and sprinkled a bit of experience into the mix. That resulted in them defying the odds to pip big guns like Club Brugge and Standard Liege to the title.
Off the back of their success, Clement was headhunted by Brugge where he won another two titles on the bounce. And some of the youngsters he’d developed at the Cageka Arena also earned big moves.
