A racist who stopped cars at a riot in Middlesbrough to ask if the drivers were 'English' or 'white' has been jailed. Jake Wray, 23, took part in riots in his home town on August 4, with the judge calling his behaviour 'disgraceful'.

Wray, of Seaton Street in Middlesbrough, was sentenced to 38 months in prison after admitting violent disorder. This included pushing a flaming wheelie bin into police lines, attempting to light a car on fire, and taking part in racist chants.

The judge said that Wray's offending was violent and 'overtly racist'. At the time of the offences Wray was serving a 24-week suspended sentence for carrying a knife and spitting at a police officer.
