A quickfire start set Dalbeattie Star on the way to victory at Newton Stewart on Saturday. Eddie Warwick’s side were 4-0 up inside half an hour and went on to win 4-2 against the league leaders, who had been unbeaten at home.
Warwick said: “We worked hard on the players mentality last week and keeping them focused and calm was the key. “We are delighted to win the game and to score four goals in 28 minutes to be leading 4-0 was absolutely incredible.
To take four goals from only five chances in the first half hour was just so clinical and ruthless. “We are disappointed in the manner of how we lost the two first half goals – it was clever play from Newton but very naive and slack from ourselves to be caught out with two long ball direct sucker punches.
The final 10 minutes of the half we tweaked our shape to take the sting out of there threat and coped until half-time. “I don’t feel the second half was great for football, it was very stop-start with lots of substitutions being made by both sides, which upset the flow of the game.
