Queen to star in shocking new ITV documentary about domestic violence

ITV is set to shed light on a critical issue with Queen Camilla at the forefront in the new documentary, Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors, airing later in 2024.The network has been granted unprecedented access to cover Camilla's longstanding efforts to combat domestic abuse, and the final result will feature private interactions with survivors which have never been public until now.The Queen will be seen hosting round-tables with teenagers, celebrating International Women's Day at Buckingham Palace, and meeting survivors who, if they hadn't found refuge, could have lost their lives.The documentary will also delve into why abusers act as they do, and how to break the cycle of abuse.

Sue Murphy, head of factual programmes at ITV, expressed the channel's pride in producing this impactful documentary, stating: "ITV is proud to be making this documentary with Her Majesty the Queen about this hugely important subject." Sue hopes that by sharing these stories, the film will trigger societal change, asserting: "We hope the film will raise awareness and inspire change in our society." The powerful 90-minute film will weave personal testimonies with the narratives of those who've lost family to domestic violence and individuals striving to halt the abuse, ensuring their voices echo throughout.

Among the significant contributors is Diana Parkes, mother to Joanna Simpson, whose life was tragically taken by her estranged husband in 2010.

Diane's heartbreaking tale inspired Queen Camilla's advocacy efforts for those affected by domestic violence. For her services to vulnerable children suffering from domestic abuse and domestic homicide, Diana was honoured with a CBE in the 2024 New Year Honour.
