Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926) is Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. Elizabeth was born in London, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and she was educated privately at home. Her father ascended the throne on the abdication of his brother King Edward VIII in 1936, from which time she was the heir presumptive. She began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. In 1947, she married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, with whom she has four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

Queen shares heartfelt message about 'passage of time' days before wedding anniversary

Queen Elizabeth II has shared a powerful message reflecting on the "passage of time" as she prepares for a day of mourning on the anniversary of her wedding to her late husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

The 95 year old monarch's son Prince Edward, 57, did his duty to read his mother's words as she is still recovering from a "sprained back" and was unable to appear in person at Church House, Westminster, which is the home of the headquarters of the Church of England.

The Queen was unfortunately unable to attend the Remembrance Sunday event due to her injury on Sunday 14 November. It comes as the Queen was also forced to cancel her attendance at the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow a few weeks ago, after an overnight.
