Queen Elizabeth has sadly passed away at the age of 96. The monarch died on Thursday (September 8) at her Scottish residence Balmoral Castle, surrounded by her family, Buckingham Palace confirmed.

It’s expected to be held at Westminster Abbey, which would make her the first sovereign to have a funeral there since 1760. It is also expected that the Archbishop of Canterbury, senior bishop of the Church of England, will lead the service.
Broadcast details are still to be announced. The Queen is also expected to be laid to rest in a private burial at St. George’s Chapel, on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
