The Duke of Edinburgh is one of the hardest working members of the Royal Family and often goes without the worthy recognition.
Prince Edward and his wife Sophie make up two of the seven-strong line up of senior royals who can represent The King - alongside the Queen, the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Princess Royal.
While Prince Edward was incredibly important to his mother, the late Queen, and was often regarded as one of her closest family members, his time growing up at Buckingham Palace sounds far from perfect.
And as he celebrates his landmark 60th birthday today (Sunday, 10 March), there was even a time that his busy mother forgot her youngest son's birthday, causing him to feel very "lonely".
