The start of Bolton’s ‘Put Big Light On’ festival has been postponed following the forecast of heavy winds and rain during Storm Darragh.

The lights festival, which attracted thousands of visitors to the town during its inaugural event last year, was due to begin this evening (December 5) and run from 5pm-9pm until Sunday.

A council spokesman, said: “As with all major council events, contingency plans were in place in case of bad weather. “We apologise to the public, performers and traders for the inconvenience this has caused. “We have not taken the decision to postpone lightly, however the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved is always our top priority. “Please keep an eye on the council’s website and social channels for information about the festival for the rest of the weekend.” The free festival is being curated by Things That Go On Things.

The first festival of its kind for the town last year attracted more than 50,000 visitors who came to see the light art trail.
