Manchester's best bar praised for 'genius' cocktails makes big change

Just a little over a year after opening its doors in Ancoats, neighbourhood bar The Jane Eyre was praised by renowned critic Marina O'Loughlin for serving a ‘bittersweet touch of genius’ in the form of a cocktail.

And whilst the Breakfast Boulevardier - made of orange marmalade, Campari, Punt E Mes vermouth and Rye - hasn't dared leave the menu ever since that review back in 2019, a lot of other things have now changed at The Jane Eyre.

Notably, its interior and its concept. The Hood Street venue, which was named Bar of the Year at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards five years ago, has just recently undergone a huge revamp which has transformed it into a mid-century hideaway - and seen it make the brave decision to scrap one aspect of its offerings altogether.

Whilst many will presume the venue has been named after the 1847 novel by Charlotte Brontë, it in fact pays homage to the mother of owners Joe and Jonny Eyre - an opportunity too good to miss.
