A property firm has abandoned its efforts to clear a planning hurdle to a new supermarket in Castle Douglas.Heptagon Portfolio Castle Douglas Ltd owns the Cotton Street premises currently occupied by Wilko.And it wanted the removal of a restriction on how much of the site could be used to sell food, potentially paving the way for a firm such as Lidl or Aldi to move into the town.However, Heptagon’s planning consultants Progress have now informed the Scottish Government it doesn’t wish to proceed with its bid to change the planning condition.An appeal had been made to Holyrood after the council failed to rule on the bid to remove to the restriction within the required time frame.In the appeal, Progress said the Wilko lease was “under review”
