Boris Johnson is considering promoting a former Mirror Chicken to become his chief of staff. No10 spin chief Lee Cain is said to be in advanced talks over taking on the top Downing Street job.
Mr Cain donned the bird suit to taunt David Cameron during the 2010 election. But his career has since hit hard times, going on to act as a press officer for Vote Leave, before becoming an aide to Mr Johnson at the Foreign Office.
He is one of the PM’s most trusted aides and No 10 insiders say that he had effectively been doing the job of chief-of-staff anyway.
