A prison litter picker was rumbled a part of an elaborate plot to smuggle drugs into jail after picking up a bag of drugs thrown over the wall and pocketing them in his trousers.
Joseph Drake, Joseph Cropper, Ronan Hanlon and Jordan Smith were part of a Merseyside-based gang which shipped hundreds of kilograms of illicit substances potentially worth an estimated £8.4million across the country.
They were locked up for a combined total of more than 75 years this week, the ECHO reports. Smith was also sentenced for his part in a plot to smuggle prohibited items into HMP Berwyn in North Wales.
Liverpool Crown Court heard that the scheme was uncovered after a car pulled up next to the jail on June 2 2020.
