The hotly-anticipated third film in the Princess Diaries series is officially underway at Disney - but lead star Anne Hathaway hasn't signed on to return as Mia Thermopolis yet.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Supergirl writer Aadrita Mukerji is working on the script for the third movie, 18 years after the last film in the series, 2004's The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.Producer Debra Martin Chase, who produced each of the first two movies, is also returning to work on this film, which will be a continuation of the films and not a reboot.

We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.'    Despite Anne's desire to work with The Sound of Music star, the 87-year-old admitted earlier this year that the time for a third film featuring her has passed. 'I think it would be too late to do it now,' she told THR back in June. 'There was talk of a sequel many, many years ago.
