Kate Middleton politely declined to sign an autograph for one royal fan during the Chelsea Flower Show today (May 22) and it has fans asking just why.
There is actually a rule for the British Royal Family that prohibits them from signing autographs, and the Princess of Wales followed that rule during her appearance, but also bent it too. However, she bent the rule just a bit, saying that she could draw for them instead. Reportedly, Kate drew a flower for a 7-year-old girl named Ruby, a tree for another girl and a pond surrounded by plants for a third child. “My name’s Catherine.
I’m not allowed to write my signature, it’s just one of those rules,” she told another person who asked about the rule. The rule of no autographs was put in place during Elizabeth II‘s reign, and it protects them from forgeries.
