Princess Anne caused a furore when she appeared to snub ex-US president Donald Trump when he and wife Melania visited the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace.

Appearing on The Royal Beat: Princess Anne at 70, royal correspondent Katie Nicholl said the Princess Royal was left 'quite upset' by the apparent accusation circulating online.

Vanity Fair's Katie said: "I don't think she was even aware of that big hoo-ha that she caused when she was seen almost gossiping with the world leaders about Trump. "Then when she was told by (royal) aides that she had become a Twitter sensation, she was actually quite upset about it, because she's always been very careful to not put a foot wrong." Princess Anne apparently did not take well to suggestions that she had offended the then-US president, being left 'upset' at the thought she had criticised him, reports Gloucestershire Live.

Katie added: "You know you don't see her criticised for wading into politics or offending or upsetting people and so I think that suggestion that she might have offended Trump was a little upsetting for her." Social media users claimed they spotted Anne allegedly laughing and joking at Trump's expense with world leaders including Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron.
