Prince William to attend BAFTAs as Kate continues recovery at home
dailyrecord.co.ukThe Prince of Wales is confirmed to be attending the EE BAFTA Film Awards this Sunday after Kensington Palace released a statement.Prince William, who is President of BAFTA, will walk the red carpet at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall in London without his wife, Kate Middleton, who is recovering at home after her abdominal surgery last month.The future King and Queen have attended the glamorous event together in previous years but the Palace announced in January that the Princess of Wales would be out of action until at least Easter.This is the third time that Kate has been unable to attend the star-studded occasion in recent years after the couple missed the event in 2022 due to "diary constraints" and also pulled out at the last minute in 2021 due to the sudden passing of William's grandfather, Prince Philip.
The heir has been the President of BAFTA since 2010, after succeeding the role from Lord Attenborough, who was the only non-royal president of BAFTA to date, HELLO!
reports.Prior to that, Princess Anne held the role from 1972 to 2000, while Prince Philip was the first President of BAFTA from 1959 to 1965.All eyes were on William and Kate last year as they made a show stopping entrance at the 2023 BAFTAs last year.
The mum-of-three looked gorgeous in a reworked Alexander McQueen one-shoulder gown and statement black opera gloves, while William was smart in a black velvet tuxedo from Tom Ford.
