Prince William's 'cyber romance' with Britney Spears as she could have been Princess

Many of us may have dreamed of being a real life prince or princess at some point in our lives, but pop icon Britney Spears almost made it a reality as she struck up a cyber romance with Prince William at the height of her fame.

The 40 year old singer, had aspirations to become a literal ‘princess of pop’ as she began chatting to the royal online when they were both teenagers, but sadly things fizzled out before they could make things official.

Sharing the revelations with talkshow host Frank Skinner back in 2002, Britney, then aged 20, confessed that she had struck up a relationship with the Duke of Cambridge over email, with the young performer even asking him out to dinner while she was touring the UK.

Britney was at the height of her fame at the time, fresh off the back of her chart topping singles Baby One More Time and Oops!
