Prince Harry has addressed the longstanding rumours about James Hewitt being his father in his brand new bombshell book. Before Princess Diana's death, she had confirmed that she and Major James Hewitt had a five-year affair during the 1980s which then made many rumours circulate that he could be Harry's father.

But in The Duke of Sussex's new memoir Spare - which is released next week - Harry addresses the rumours and says how his father King Charles had often made light of guessing who his real dad was, writes The Mirror. The Duke writes: "The joke was damn funny in light of the rumour going around at the time that my real father was one of my mother's ex-lovers: Major James Hewitt.

One cause of the rumour was Major Hewitt's red hair, but another was sadism."Tabloid readers loved the idea that Prince Charles's youngest son was not Prince Charles's son.

They never got tired of that 'joke', for some reason."Harry then questions whether the rumour was to help make him appear as a "laughing stock", as Diana hadn't even met Major Hewitt "until long after I was born".The 38-year-old then claims that some journalists even tried to "hunt my DNA to verify it" and his initial response was that after "torturing" his mum into hiding "soon they would come for me".Also in the new book include Harry's account of an alleged physical attack on him by brother William during a row over Meghan.
