Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

Prince Charles is honoring his mother, Queen Elizabeth II on her historic achievement. On Sunday, the royal’s oldest son released a statement honoring the monarch's Accession Day. “On this historic day, my wife and I join you all in congratulating Her Majesty The Queen on the remarkable achievement of serving this nation, the Realms and Commonwealth for seventy years,” the statement read.  “The Queen’s devotion to the welfare of all her people inspires still greater admiration with each passing year.

We are deeply conscious of the hounour represented by my mother’s wish. As we have sought together to serve and support Her Majesty and the people of our communities, my darling wife has been my own steadfast support throughout.” The statement continued, “The year of this unprecedented Platinum Jubilee brings an opportunity for us all to come together in celebrating the service of The Queen by whose example we will continue to be led in the years to come.”Sunday marks 70 years since the queen ascended the throne — making her the first British royal in history to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

Ahead of her special day, Her Majesty released a statement expressing her wish for Charles’ wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall to become “Queen Consort” when he ascends the throne.  «When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service,» the 95-year-old royal said in her message celebrating her Platinum Jubilee.
