Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall were beaming as they touched down in Canada as part of a three day tour.The couple arrived in St John's, Newfoundland, on Tuesday 17 May as part of a tour to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Charles and Camilla touched down on the island of Newfoundland, which was the first leg on their 72-hour visit which will see them travel a staggering 9,000 miles.

Schoolchildren waving flags and well-wishers greeted the royal couple as they disembarked to begin their whirlwind schedule of engagements with a welcoming ceremony in the city of St John's.The UK enjoys a warm relationship with Canada, where the Queen is head of state and whose Platinum Jubilee Charles and Camilla's three-day visit is designed to celebrate.
