Primary pupils in Lanarkshire show their knowledge with appliance of science at challenge showcase

The inventiveness and knowledge of P7 pupils was highlighted in a Primary Science Challenge Showcase at a North Lanarkshire high school .Teams of youngsters from the cluster of primary schools who will move up to St Aidan’s High after the summer showcased their own science experiments in a morning of presentations to staff, parents and fellow pupils.The presentations were judged by a staff team led by Elaine Shuel, faculty head of science, and including Mr Kennedy, depute head of transition, and supported by teachers in the science faculty.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Worthy runner-up was the 'Slushies' project by a team from St Aidan’s Primary.The showcase event was the culmination of a year of work by Jennifer O’Neill, Nicola Halferty and Brian Lafferty of the science faculty, and S5/6 pupils who volunteered as Young STEM Ambassadors.The staff and pupils from St Aidan’s High had visited the primary schools on Friday afternoons and helped them to develop their expertise in designing experiments.

The P7 pupils then designed their own experiments and catalogued their results in a learning journal, before preparing a final product for the showcase event.Topics ranged from
