Firefighters were called to reports of a 'house explosion' in Lancashire at 10.31am on Sunday in which three people were hurt, one seriously.

Fire crews went to Wheatley Drive in Longridge, near Preston, and found one house had been demolished. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) said they responded to a 'reported gas explosion'.

By the afternoon eight fire engines remained at the scene. People have been asked to avoid the area. Neighbours described a 'gut wrenching bang' which rocked the houses in neighbouring streets.

One woman said 'it was so loud I thought it had come from my own house'. A cordon was erected around the house and residents reported windows in neighbouring properties had also been damaged in the explosion.
