The Times reports that the backlash has had the desired effect and an official u-turn is expected to be announced next week, with the view at a Premier League shareholder’s meeting on Thursday being that no matches after November’s international break until the end of the year should be subject to the PPV charge.
It is also said to be unlikely that the pay-per-view system will continue in the new year, instead of just reducing the price, but this weekend’s matches, West Brom vs Tottenham and Arsenal vs Aston Villa, will still be shown on PPV as some subscriptions have already been sold.However, one issue the Premier League will now face is that Sky Sports and BT Sport do not like showing extra matches for no extra charge, with questions.
