The Premier League have explained the decision not to award Manchester United a penalty in Thursday's night Premier League clash with Southampton.
Kyle Walker-Peters was involved in an incident inside the visitors' penalty area where the ball seemed to strike his arm before going out of play.
Referee John Brooks pointed for a corner for United before signalling that VAR were checking the incident. A very short review saw United's appeals ignored with Brooks ordering the corner to be taken and play resuming, sparking frustration inside Old Trafford.
Replays showed that the ball had struck Walker-Peters' arm after Amad had applied pressure to the wing-back. The Premier League Match Centre released a statement on X after the decision wasn't overturned, explaining why Brooks' on-field decision wasn't overturned. "The referee’s call of no penalty for handball by Walker-Peters was checked and confirmed by VAR, who deemed it was accidental as a consequence of contact from Amad," it read.
