A pregnant mum whose home went up in flames on Christmas Day has thanked TV show Emmerdale for saving her life. Care worker Carla Conduct's home was ravaged by fire following an explosion in an upstairs children's bedroom caused by a suspected gas leak.

But, the mum-of-three, 35, says she owes her life to the ITV soap because if she hadn't been downstairs watching it she "wouldn't be here".

Ms Conduct said: "'I was in the front room watching Emmerdale when it happened. Luckily I wasn't upstairs otherwise I wouldn't be here. "I've never been so glad I watch Emmerdale."
