Bargeddie powerlifter Catherine Gordon has earned a place at the World Masters Championships in South Africa later this year – but needs backing.
It has been an extraordinary year for the 51-year-old, who won her class (-76kg Masters 2) at the British Equipped Championships in Newark, Nottinghamshire, in February.
That led to Catherine taking several medals from the European Equipped Masters Championships in Luxembourg on May 31, and the World Bench Championships in Austin, Texas, on May 31, in which Catherine beat her own record.
Both times she was representing Great Britain. In Luxembourg, Catherine won silver overall, silver squat medal, gold bench medal and gold deadlift medal, a total of 460kg [the latter three were a new British and Scottish record over two age classes, Masters 1, and 2].
