The Pope will not visit Glasgow for the COP26 climate conference, it has been revealed.The Vatican delegation to Scotland later this month will instead be led by its Secretary of State.
His Holiness Pope Francis had been strongly rumoured to be among the 200 world leaders expected to descend on Glasgow for the largest political summit ever held in the UK.
Scotland's Catholic's bishops had previously said they would have warmly welcomed the Pontiff if had decided to visit. Among the VIPs expected at the SEC are the Queen and US President Joe Biden, who has said he is "anxious" to attend.
COP26 is being hosted by the UK Government on behalf of the United Nations and has been billed as the most important conference on climate change ever held.
