A former police officer has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a black man who held a mobile phone. Adam Coy, who shot dead Andre Hill in December, was arrested and charged with murder, felonious assault and two counts of dereliction of duty.
Coy, a 19-year veteran of the force, approached Hill, 47, in a garage and shot him within seconds. He did not turn his body camera on until after the shooting.
Officials from Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s office interviewed witnesses in the case, examined evidence and presented charges to a grand jury that indicted Coy, according to The New York Times.
