Detectives have not reported any cases for prosecution over the high-profile investigation into alleged SNP fraud. The update came after senior party figures reportedly said they are concerned Nicola Sturgeon and her husband Peter Murrell could be charged.Operation Branchform has been investigating complaints about how hundreds of thousands of pounds in indyref2 donations were spent.Sturgeon, who was SNP leader and First Minister for nine years, former party chief executive Murrell and one-time treasurer Colin Beattie were arrested as part of the probe. All three were then released without charge pending further investigation. In a recent interview, outgoing Police Scotland chief constable Iain Livingstone said the investigation had widened: "It’s moved beyond what some of the initial reports were.

That’s not uncommon in investigations such as this."He added the force would not put an “absolute timeframe” on the length of the investigation but that it would be “proportionate and timeous”.He added: “Investigations into the finances of an organisation, the finances of individuals, are often complex.“Investigations around fraud or investigations around potential embezzlement or investigations around the misuse of funds take time.”The Record asked the Crown Office if they had received the final report on Operation Brachform.A spokesperson said: "The police haven’t reported any Branchform cases to COPFS for consideration of prosecution."First Minister Humza Yousaf was asked this week if he was worried there would be charges. He said: “I'm not going to comment on a live police investigation.”To sign up to the Daily Record Politics newsletter, click here.
