A police dog helped snare a man suspected of being involved in a 'spate' of burglaries around Middleton. Officers were called to the Alkrington area of the town last night (Friday January 21) following reports that a man was trying to break into a building.
When they arrived, police dog Kyp managed to detain a 21-year-old, who was then arrested. A spokesman for the force's Tactical Dog Unit tweeted: "Great work from this young dog plus a real lift for the community from this ongoing issue." Another two suspected burglars were also arrested following an incident in the New Islington area of Manchester, in the early hours of this morning.
A GMP spokesman said: "In the New Islington area of the city, two men were detained by response cops who were alerted to a report of an ongoing burglary on Great Ancoats Street at around 2.15am on Saturday 22 January. "We found two offenders holding torches as they searched a closed bar that appeared to have had its main door forced open. "A 43-year-old man was detained on suspicion of four burglaries - including incidents reported in Trafford - and possession of a bladed article."
