Police descend as Katie Hopkins' appearance at Karen's Diner hit by protesters

Police were called to a protest outside a restaurant in Prestwich last night as Katie Hopkins made an appearance. Demonstrators from organisations Stand Up To Racism and Unite Against Fascism gathered outside Karen's Diner on Bury New Road on Wednesday evening (March 20) ahead of the controversial former Apprentice contestant turned far-right commentator's appearance.

Some held placards which read 'Stamp out Islamophobia' while other posters read 'Stop the far right'. Another poster held by a protester said 'anti-fascist mum gang'.

Demonstrators chanted 'down with Karen's in Prestwich' and '2, 4, 6, 8, no to racism, no to Kate'. She said: "I'm in Manchester, we've sold out in Manchester and I'm in Birmingham tomorrow night. "So if you're wondering I am, we're on the Silly Cow tour." She added: "Karen's Diner is where the staff are deliberately rude to customers for the fun of it really, so it kind of suits me perfectly. "Everyone is out there having their burgers and I'm about to go out and give them a good hour's worth of Hopkins on full speed.
