Police appeal after items in community group container destroyed in 'arson attack'

Police have issued an appeal for information after a container containing items belonging to two community groups in Radcliffe was burnt in a 'arson attack'.

Litter pickers and tools belonging to the Radcliffe Litter Pickers and Incredible Edible Radcliffe - a community gardening group - were left wrecked after the fire at the container on Belmont Road.

Many of the items had been donated by people in the local community. Police believe the fire was started deliberately. Officers want to speak to anyone who has any information about the blaze, particularly anyone who has CCTV footage from the area at the time. An appeal posted on the GMP Bury North Facebook page today said: "#APPEAL | The Radcliffe Neighbourhood Team are still appealing for information regarding an incident of arson that occurred between 17:00hrs and 17:30hrs on Friday the 4th of August on Belmont Road, Radcliffe. "The incident caused significant damage to containers storing items vital to two voluntary community groups, Radcliffe Litter Pickers and Incredible Edible Radcliffe. "Many of the items were melted in the incident, these groups have been volunteering to better their community for four years. "We are asking for anyone with CCTV which could assist our investigation or anyone with information on who could be responsible to call 01618568180 and leave a message for PC 18993 Bateman, quoting Log 2970-040823."
