Playmaker Closes Deals on Thriller ‘Sew Torn’ Ahead of Sitges Screening (EXCLUSIVE)

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor Sales agency The Playmaker Munich has closed the first distribution deals on thriller “Sew Torn,” ahead of its appearance at Sitges Film Festival in the Noves Vision Section.

The film, which previously screened at SXSW and Locarno, has sold to distributors in France (Koba Films), U.K. (Vertigo Releasing), Spain (Madfer Films), Japan (King Records) and India (BookMyShow India).

UTA Independent Film Group, which holds the rights for North America, are in talks with distributors. “Sew Torn” is the feature film debut of writer-director Freddy Macdonald, following his short film of the same title, which was acquired by Searchlight Pictures.

Freddy Macdonald’s AFI thesis film, “Shedding Angels,” won a Student Academy Award and was shortlisted for a student BAFTA. He is represented by UTA. “Sew Torn” is described as “a layered thriller with dark comedy elements exploring the intricate tapestry of human decision-making.” The film centers on Barbara Duggen (played by Eve Connolly), who calls herself the Mobile Seamstress.
