A Pizza Express restaurant has opened five months after the ceiling collapsed as diners ate inside. Emergency services raced to the incident at the Salford Quays branch on September 8 last year.

Customers were left horrified when the ceiling suddenly came crashing down at around 3.45pm. Police, paramedics and firefighters descended on the scene, near to the Quayside shopping centre, and taped off the area.

The section of the ceiling that collapsed was below the Virgin Active gym, which had to partially close for 'safety reasons' following the dramatic incident.

Following the ceiling collapse, a rescue mission was launched to save anyone stuck inside, but it was later confirmed no one had been injured.
