Piers Morgan's son has been forced to step in and apologise to I'm A Celebrity winner Sam Thompson on behalf of his Talk TV presenter dad who branded the Made in Chelsea star as an "irritating halfwit".After Sam was crowned King of the Jungle on Sunday evening, Piers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to criticise Nigel Farage who he referred to as a "snake" as well as the ITV show's poor ratings this year. The former Good Morning Britain host also dragged Sam's name through the dirt too, only for his eldest child Spencer to force him to take back his comment, the Mirror reports.Piers wrote: "Congrats to Nigel Farage on losing a public vote for the 7th time, this time to an irritating reality TV halfwit in the lowest-rated series of I’m A Celebrity. "And for ending up engulfed with snakes, an appropriate final humiliation for the biggest snake in Britain."Although the former UKIP leader bore the brunt of Pier's rage, which was deemed "ungracious" and "spiteful" by some, it was reality TV star Sam who was soon the subject of Piers' backtrack.Quoting his father's tweet, 30-year-old Spencer set the record straight as he wrote: "Sam is a really nice and very switched on guy.

Would like to apologise on dad’s behalf for this misinformed tweet."Piers, 58, then responded: "UPDATE: My eldest son @spencermorgan93 knows @SamThompsonUK well and says he’s definitely not a halfwit, and is a really genuine down-to-earth guy who speaks highly of me.

Apologies, Sam, I clearly misjudged you." Join the Daily Record's WhatsApp community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages. The presenter however reiterated his stance on Farage after one X user suggested that the politician "lives rent free" in Piers' head.
