In view of his 7.9 million followers, he revealed regretfully his former teacher had died last night.Author Tim Adler had originally tagged his name in a post breaking the sorrowful news."Very sad news to be told that my shorthand teacher, the redoubtable June Beavers, passed away last night," the message read."Please RT to any journos who were her former pupils."Piers retweeted the announcement within minutes, adding his condolences."So sorry to hear this.

Mrs Beavers, as we all called her, was a legendary figure so many journalism students like me at Harlow. A wonderful lady. RIP," he wrote.Though Piers is now best known for the Meghan Markle scandal which saw him resign from Good Morning Britain instead of apologising, in a stand for freedom of speech, his beginnings were actually at Harlow College.He completed formal journalism training there, including a shorthand course, accredited by the NCTJ.Though some say shorthand has been largely replaced by digital recording technology, Piers took part in a 2018 bid by the NCTJ to celebrate 50 years of a technique known as Teeline.He claimed even to this day, he still makes handwritten notes using the skills he learnt back in his college days.“I was taught Teeline at Harlow by the legendary June Beavers," he recalled. "And it has always stood me in very good stead."Tape recorders are great until they don’t work, as I once discovered when I interviewed Rod Stewart for an hour and later could only hear my voice.“Having an ability to take fast contemporaneous handwritten notes as a backup to technology is invaluable."He added: "I still use Teeline on Good Morning Britain during a big breaking news story.
