Beloved British comedian Peter Kay has left American Netflix executives puzzled by using a distinctly English idiom. Peter featured in the Christmas Wallace and Gromit film Vengeance Most Fowl, marking a rare appearance after stepping back from his highly successful career.

In his first television role in four years, the Bolton comic played Chief Inspector Mackintosh. However, Netflix bosses were concerned he was being offensive when he used a particular phrase.

The slang "flippin' Nora", a common phrase expressing disbelief or dismay for anyone north of London, was the cause of the confusion.

Chief Inspector Mackintosh uses the phrase as the notorious villain Feathers McGraw - the cunning criminal penguin - makes his getaway.
