Perth boxer Luke Bibby's improvement impressing coach Billy Nelson ahead of professional debut

The coach of a Perth boxer preparing for his debut in the professional ranks admits he has never seen such improvement in a short space of time.Billy Nelson welcomed Luke Bibby to his pro stable back in October and, since then, they have been making preparations for a January 26 appearance in Glasgow.Bibby (23), a former Perth Academy student and proud member of Perth Railway Boxing Club, was a two-time British champion at amateur level.As he edges closer to his bow in the professional game, this week Nelson compared his work ethic to that of renowned Scottish boxer Ricky Burns.“Luke came to Edinburgh to spar one of my fighters and I liked what I saw,” Nelson said of his first interactions with Bibby, who competes at lightweight.“But I’ve never personally asked any fighter to come to my stable.

We stayed in touch, he phoned me up and said he was thinking of turning pro.“I thought, 100 per cent, the pros would suit him.

We spoke for a couple of days and have taken off from there.“What I will say about Luke is, since he has been here, nobody has improved as much as him.“He is a diligent trainer, totally professional and the good thing about my gym is we have a good laugh too.

He is a funny, funny lad and is coming out of his shell more and more each week.”Bibby, who has competed across the continent with the Scottish elite squad, has never been shy when it comes to putting in the hard work.
