They don’t do it for the awards or the recognition.But there will forever be an importance in turning the spotlight on volunteers who contribute greatly in the community.One such figure was highlighted at the recent Perth and Kinross Sports Awards, held at the city’s museum and art gallery.Frazer Robertson, president of Glenearn Badminton Club, was announced as winner of the Volunteer of the Year 2021.“Volunteering is something that becomes addictive,” Frazer told the Perthshire Advertiser this week.“Now, not everybody wants to do the governance bit, the meetings, finance trackers and all that kind of stuff.“But everybody has something to give.

Everybody has some kind of skill. There are lots of ways to volunteer.“I can’t recommend it enough to people because it is a very rewarding thing.

It’s something that makes you feel good.“It’s good for your mental health, for socialising and meeting new people.“And it’s also a good way of learning new skills.

You don’t need to be an expert, you can learn on the job.”He continued: “It’s lovely to be recognised for what you are doing, but that is not why you are doing it.“It’s more about giving back to the club.“I’m quite new to Perth and moved about three or four years ago.“Badminton is something I have played all my life.“I reached out to Glenearn and they were a real social bunch.
