Sophie Dillman says she 'doesn't know' what Neighbours axe means for Home and Away
Home and Away star Sophie Dillman has admitted she "doesn't know" what the axing of rival soap Neighbours will mean for the programme. The news broke last month that iconic Australian soap Neighbours had been axed after almost 40 years on the airwaves, as UK network Channel 5 could no longer budget for the show. Its Australian network Fremantle Media attempted to find alternate ways of funding the show, but after extensive negotiations failed to find a new home for Neighbours.A statement from Channel 5 announced at the time: "Neighbours will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer. It’s been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade, and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series."We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision, however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers."Channel 5 also thanked loyal fans for their support.Numerous cast members have shared their devastation as the long-running show comes to a close later this year, and Home and Away's Sophie also shared her upset at hearing the news alongside her co-stars.Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, she explained: "I’m devastated that Neighbours is gone.
