Assault on Precinct 13 star Austin Stoker has sadly died at the age of 92.The Trinidadian-American actor, who also starred in the series Roots, reportedly died peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles.Austin’s wife, Robin Stoker, confirmed the star died on Friday, which was also his 92nd birthday. His family also confirmed that the actor had died in hospital due to renal failure. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, as well as his daughter Tiffany, his son Origen and his two grandsons Marcus and Austin.Austin is probably best remembered for his performance as the heroic cop battling a gang inside a decommissioned police station in the 1976 John Carpenter film Assault on Precinct 13.On television, he notably played Virgil Harvey, the father to Olivia Cole‘s character Mathilda, on ABC’s 1977 series, Roots.The star also appeared in the 1973 film Battle for the Planet of the Apes, which was directed by J. Lee Thompson.In the film, Austin portrayed Macdonald, the human assistant of Roddy McDowall’s Caesar.Others will remember Austin playing Brick Williams, the love interest of Pam Grier’s private investigator, in 1975’s Sheba, Baby.That same year, he lent his voice to the Return of the Planet of the Apes animated series.His final acting credit is in the 2022 film Give Till It Hurts, where he played Reverend Bishop.Speaking about Austin’s death, his wife Robin told The Hollywood Reporter.
