Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorThe Smile — a trio comprising Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood and Sons of Kemet’s Tom Skinner — will release their debut album, “A Light for Attracting Attention,” on May 13on XL Recordings.The 13-track album was produced and mixed by Nigel Godrich and mastered by Bob Ludwig. Tracks feature strings by the London Contemporary Orchestra and a full brass section of contemporary UK jazz players including Byron Wallen, Theon and Nathaniel Cross, Chelsea Carmichael, Robert Stillman and Jason Yarde.The group has previously released four singles: “You Will Never Work in Television Again,” “The Smoke,” “Skrting on the Surface” and “Pana-vision,” the latter of which appeared in the finale of “Peaky Blinders” — and premiere a fifth, “Free in the Knowledge,” with today’s announcement, accompanied by a video directed by Leo Leigh.

Radiohead side project The Smile have confirmed details of a ticket ballot for fans from around the world for their upcoming London shows at Magazine.The group – comprising Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, plus Sons Of Kemet’s Tom Skinner – announced the three live shows earlier this month (January 5), due to take place across January 29 and January 30.The trio said in a press release: “We have been overwhelmed with how quickly the three shows on 29th & 30th sold out. Thank you so much for the response.“We wanted to try to make this a global audience in the venue as well as online, so we’ve held back some venue tickets for sale – a pair for every country in the world across the three shows.

He didn’t give away any details about a release date or album title, but dropped hints as to how it will sound, saying “it’s not a rock record”.“It’s an interesting juxtaposition of things, but it does make sense.
