The two singers went on to… Wait a minute. There was a Missy Elliott show? Stop the presses … this seemed like a case of burying the lead, as they say in news circles. Hip-hop fans knew what the real headlines should have been on that story: A unicorn had been sighted during a full solar eclipse, as Halley’s comet made a rare pass over Brigadoon — or other metaphors to that effect — if Elliott was being sighted back on a stage. Something slightly rarer still occurred Tuesday night in southern California’s Inland Empire: a stand-alone headlining show by Elliott. As one tweeter put it: “Why Yaamava’ Theatre?” — wondering, reasonably, why Elliott was following her festival appearance not with a full tour or, say, a night or two at the Hollywood Bowl, but a one-off gig at a 2,500-seat theater at a casino-resort at least an hour outside of L.A. in off-the-beaten-track Highland? Rage Against The Machine, meanwhile, were on their fifth nomination, having been nominated more times than any of this year’s other shortlisted artists.“It is a surprising trajectory for us to be welcomed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Rage Against the Machine said in a statement.

The singer-songwriter says she is pleased to be going in alongside her old pal Willie Nelson, with whom she just sang for his 90th birthday party at the Hollywood Bowl, along with fellow female powerhouses of contemporary music like Kate Bush (who she grew up on) and Missy Elliott (whose production skills she particularly admires). Never mind those who rode into the hall before her: A scan of the plaques on the walls in Cleveland may read like a discography of people Crow has already sung with over the last three decades.

The country music legend was one of seven music figures announced Wednesday morning as having been voted into the hall, along with Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, Missy Elliott, Sheryl Crow, George Michael and the Spinners. There are six more inductees beyond that list, with the distinction of being selected by a select Hall of Fame committee to join the seven performers who were voted in via general balloting. These are singer Chaka Khan, instrumentalist-producer Al Kooper and lyricist Bernie Taupin, all in the “musical excellence” category; pioneering rock guitarist Link Wray and hip-hop originator DJ Kool Herc in the “musical influence” division; and “Soul Train” TV host Don Cornelius as the recipient of the annual Ahmet Ertegun Award.

Timbaland has confirmed that his longtime collaborator Justin Timberlake has finished his next album.The two have been collaborating since the late ’90s, across all of the singer’s solo albums. Now in a recent interview with Variety, the Grammy Award-winning producer revealed that he has been helping Timberlake with his next record.“We just finished up and everything sounds great,” said Timbaland.

The Library of Congress has added 25 recordings added to the National Recording Registry. The new additions comprise songs and albums whose release dates range from 1907 to 2012.
