Rotherham match descends into farce as fan runs on pitch to boot ball away before penalty
Rotherham’s 1-0 win against Accrington Stanley turned into a farce after a fan booted away a penalty. The Millers were 1-0 ahead on 89 minutes when Stanley were awarded a penalty for Richard Wood's handball offence.Harry Pell was set to take the penalty but two Rotherham fans ran onto the pitch, with one kicking the ball away. The fan was chased by some players but ultimately apprehended by a steward and led off the field at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.Pell eventually had his penalty saved by Josh Vickers, meaning Daniel Barlaser’s fine volley on 57 minutes gave the home side all three points to send them six points clear at the top of League One.Both managers, John Coleman and Paul Warne, vehemently condemned the incident after the game, the 'Owd Reds' boss saying: “It is one of those situations where Pelly is desperate to take it because he has been assaulted as well. "Was it the right thing to do? It’s easy to be wise after the event.
