Sleaford Mods frontman Jason Williamson has spoken to NME about the band’s new material, their £5 tickets for fans on low incomes, his own working-class roots, Oasis’ reunion, his past feud with Noel Gallagher and his thoughts on Keir Starmer’s performance as Prime Minister so far.Williamson was speaking ahead of the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards (MPAs), for which he’d been a judge alongside the likes of founding judge Rankin and Gossip’s Beth Ditto. Noel Gallagher made a surprise appearance at the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards yesterday (October 3) to honour Oasis photographer Jill Furmanovsky.Furmanovsky has shot some of music’s biggest names, including Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Debbie Harry, Joy Division, Amy Winehouse and more.Her work with the Gallagher brothers over the years culminated in the release of both Oasis – Was There Then: A Photographic Journey (1997) and Oasis at Knebworth (2021).Yesterday (October 3), Noel Gallagher honoured her 53-year career by presenting her with the ICON award. “She’s a very, very dear friend of mine,” he said at the event, which also saw Nile Rodgers, Debbie Harry, David Gilmour, Siouxsie Sioux and Sting send in video tributes.“It’s been an honour to have been associated with her for 30 years.

Noel Gallagher has said Oasis never became as popular in the US as they were in the UK because America “couldn’t handle” that “we didn’t give a fuck about anything”.Gallagher was speaking in conversation with the legendary rock photographer Jill Furmanovsky ahead of her new exhibition, which will include images of Oasis that she was able to capture during the band’s peak.“America, they couldn’t handle the fact that we didn’t give a fuck about anything,” said Gallagher, when asked about Oasis’ relationship with the country. “I mean, I think that’s the reason we’ve never really had a number one album in America – they wouldn’t go the extra mile for us because we wouldn’t go the extra mile for them.”“That’s why we’ve never been nominated for a GRAMMY – you’ve got to do all that stuff over there, you’ve got to kind of fake it a little bit and we just we couldn’t do it which is why we’d always stall at number two.”All seven of Oasis’ studio albums reached the Number One spot on the UK Albums Chart, whereas none achieved the same feat in the US, with 1997’s ‘Be Here Now’ reaching the highest position of Number Two.
